Abstract

The relations between fiction and reality represent a topic that has been discussed throughout the historical process of literary theory, starting from the reflections of Aristotle. The book that we choose is a historical and ethnographic document describing Algeria during French colonization, based on a real travel. Imagination / truth dichotomy takes different forms depending on the type of each text and its purpose. Servet trusts in the pure reality without eliminating completely literary fiction.
