Abstract This dissertation seeks to question the image of the human being in a rapidly evolving medical and technological present, by linking medical anthropology with bioethics within the horizon of an applied philosophy that rethinks the concepts of the body, illness, life, and dignity—beyond reductive classifications of the human as merely a biological entity. The challenge lies not only in understanding contemporary medical practices, but in deconstructing their symbolic and ethical systems, and re-grounding them within a vision that affirms the universality of the human without neglecting socio-cultural and lived particularities. In this light, medical anthropology emerges as a hermeneutic horizon for the human self, while bioethics performs an act of resistance against objectification, advocating for the human as an open philosophical question rather than a closed biological fact.
