However, ecofeminist scholarship has faced criticism for its tendency, particularly in some of its earlier formulations, to privilege the experiences of white Western women while overlooking the diverse historical, cultural, and socioeconomic realities of women in the Global South. In response to these limitations, this thesis explores the intersection of ecofeminism and postcolonial literature through an analysis of three novels written by women: The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga, and Love in the Kingdom of Oil by Nawal El Saadawi. Drawing on ecofeminist and postcolonial theoretical perspectives, the study examines how the selected works represent the interrelated structures of gender-based oppression, colonial and neocolonial power, and environmental exploitation. It also investigates how these narratives challenge dominant ideologies; expose the unequal distribution of power, and articulate possibilities for female agency, resistance, and empowerment. Through a qualitative approach grounded in close textual analysis and contextual interpretation, the thesis considers the specific cultural, historical, and political circumstances shaping each literary work. By bringing these texts into dialogue, the study highlights the diversity of postcolonial women’s experiences and demonstrates the value of an inclusive, context-sensitive ecofeminist approach to literary criticism. Ultimately, it contributes to a broader understanding of how postcolonial women’s literature interrogates the interconnected dynamics of gender, ecology, and power. Love in the Kingdom of Oil لنوال السعداوي. |
